Using the Charter Fiscal Impact Calculator
Follow three simple steps to estimate the annual negative fiscal impact of a charter school in your district:
Select a school district using the drop-down menu. This auto-fills the district’s per-pupil funding.
Estimate fixed costs, as a percentage of the district’s budget. If fixed costs — including staffing, maintenance and utilities — account for 40 percent of the budget, enter “40” (no decimal point needed).
Enter charter enrollment. Many charter schools grow to 500 seats, but it varies. When charter operators apply to local districts, their applications include enrollment projections.
FINALLY: Click the red “Calculate” button to determine a charter school’s annual negative fiscal impact. Learn how many classroom teachers your district could hire (or lose) for the same amount of money.
